Peer Mediators

At Godmanchester Community Academy, we believe that children can play a powerful role in creating a kind, respectful, and positive school environment. Our Peer Mediators are specially trained pupils who help others to solve small disagreements and restore friendships in a calm and fair way.

Peer Mediators learn how to listen carefully, stay neutral, and support others to find their own solutions. They work mainly during break and lunchtime, helping to make our playgrounds happy, safe spaces for everyone.

Before taking on their roles, Peer Mediators receive training from staff to develop key skills such as:

  • Active listening and empathy

  • Understanding different viewpoints

  • Using calm, respectful language

  • Problem-solving and teamwork

Peer Mediators do not tell others what to do — instead, they guide children to talk, listen, and agree together. This helps everyone learn important life skills like compromise, resilience, and taking responsibility for their actions.

Our Peer Mediator team meets regularly with their staff lead to reflect on their work, share successes, and think about how to make our school community even more positive and inclusive.

Through this programme, we aim to develop confident, caring young leaders who model our school values and help every child feel listened to, supported, and respected.
