Pupil Premium Strategy

What is Pupil Premium?

The pupil premium is additional funding for publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils of all abilities and to close the gaps between them and their peers. Funding is allocated for pupils who:

  • Receive Free School Meals (any child who has received FSM during past six years)
  • Have parents in the armed forces (Service Children)
  • Are ‘Looked After Children’ (LAC)
  • Are adopted from care.

Principles:

The Staff and Governors of Godmanchester Community Education Trust are committed to ensuring provision is made which enables the accelerated progress in English and Maths of those pupils who benefit from the Pupil Premium.

Aims of provision:

  • To ensure that teaching and learning opportunities meet the needs of all pupils.
  • To ensure that appropriate provision is made for pupils who belong to vulnerable groups, this includes ensuring that the needs of socially disadvantaged pupils are adequately assessed and addressed.
  • To address the main barriers to educational achievement for Pupil Premium pupils.
  • In making provision for socially disadvantaged pupils, we recognise that not all pupils who receive free school meals will be socially disadvantaged.

The main barriers to educational achievement that Pupil Premium pupils in our school face are:

  • Poor attendance and increased number of broken weeks.
  • Lack of parental engagement and support for home learning.
  • Low attainment in English and Maths.
  • Lack of funding for school trips and residential trips.
  • Ensuring pupils have regular meals and a balanced diet.
  • Poor social skills.

In order to address these barriers, we will spend our Pupil Premium funding in the following ways:

  • Provision of a Pupil Premium Leader who is responsible for tracking the progress, monitoring the provision provided and evaluating the impact of interventions of children who benefit from Pupil Premium funding.
  • 1 to 1 and small group interventions to raise attainment in English and Maths.
  • The SENCo tracks attendance and provides support in this area.
  • Provision of a breakfast club.
  • Provision of social skills clubs, before school and at lunchtime.
  • Support home learning by providing a weekly homework club to support children.
  • Provision of enrichment opportunities for pupils.
  • Provision of support to meet the social and wellbeing needs of our pupils.

Impact will be measured by:

  • Progress and attainment data for academic year 2017-18
  • Teacher/TA observations
  • Case studies
  • Attendance data
